Valentin Chenkov was born on January 31, 1964, in Plevеn. He graduated from the "Russian Language Gymnasium" in Plevеn with Russian and German languages. He won first place in the city chess championship for juniors.
He participated in the studio of the renowned actress Sasha Filipova and in the production of Plevеn Theater: "The Bedbug" by Mayakovsky, directed by Elena Tsikova.
In 1984, he was accepted into VITIZ (National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts) in the class of Prof. Sasho Stoyanov. His diploma works were "Serdariat" by Grigor Parlichev, directed by Sasho Stoyanov, and Enobarbus in "Antony and Cleopatra" by Shakespeare, directed by Tsvetana Stoyanova.
In 1988, he became part of the troupe at the Drama and Puppet Theater "Vasil Drumev" in Shumen, where he has remained to this day. He has played over 100 roles. Some of the most significant ones include: Botеv in "The Secret Supper of Deacon Levski" directed by Boris Pankin, Chicken in "Kingdom of Earth" by Tennessee Williams directed by Boyko Bogdanov, Starbuck in "The Rainmaker" by Richard Nash directed by Prof. Grisha Ostrovski, John Smith in "Between Two Chairs" directed by Bogdan Serchadzhiev, Chushkarov in "Duel" by Ivan Vazov directed by V. Burilkov, Cassius Calhoun in "The Headless Horseman" by Mayne Reid directed by Lyubo Dekovski, Kochev in "The New Harbor" directed by Yuri Statkov, Quilty in "Lolita" by Nabokov directed by Dimitar Dimitrov, The Priest in "Mandrake" by Machiavelli, directed by Boyko Bogdanov, The Father" in "Sisters" by Razumovska, directed by Vasilena Radeva, Polixenes in "The Winter's Tale" by Shakespeare, directed by Nadya Asenova, Man in "Aleko. Smyah nad Mrachni Stranitsi" directed by Maxima Boeva, Father Olivares in "Condemned Souls" by Dimitar Dimov directed by Boyko Iliev, The Stranger in "The Lunar Room" by Paveri Petrov directed by Vuzkresiya Viharova, and many, many others.
He has won a number of awards, including the 1st prize for "Actor's Art of the Actors Participating in the Performance 'Where Bulgaria Begins'" and "For True - Documentary and Strong Impact Ensemble Play" at the National Festival of Small Theatrical Forms in Vratsa in 2016. The play "Where Bulgaria Begins" also received a nomination at the "Askeer" Academy Awards for "Best Performance" in 2016 and won an award for Best Overall Performance at the "Drumevi Theatrical Holidays. New Bulgarian Drama" in Shumen in 2016.
