The Divine Comedy

“The Divine Comedy” by Dante Alighieri is a theatrical production that guides the audience through the realms of Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise—not merely as a spatial journey, but as a dramatic inner path of the human spirit. The staging embodies Dante’s philosophical legacy, in which the individual confronts destiny, moral choices, and the possibility of spiritual ascent.

The gradations of sin and virtue, the idea of divine justice, and the soul’s striving for perfection accompany us throughout, constantly raising questions about the meaning of existence. Dante’s encounters with the condemned and the blessed are transformed into stage images of human frailty, suffering, and hope, while the figure of Beatrice shines as a symbol of divine love and spiritual enlightenment.

The production (directed by Liliya Abadzhieva) reveals the work’s philosophical depth—reflections on free will, human responsibility, and the place of knowledge and truth in the life of the spirit. Through Dante’s poetics and metaphysical visions, the performance turns the life of the spirit into a powerful theatrical experience. “The Divine Comedy” becomes a path toward overcoming chaos, achieving inner illumination, and discovering divine order in the world.

More than a dramatization of a literary masterpiece, “The Divine Comedy” is a spiritual journey in which theatre becomes a bridge between humanity and eternity.
